You Can’t Hide From It!

You might not be very good with money, and you know what – that’s ok.  We’ll let it go.  In fact, we won’t even scoff if you tell us about your lack of discipline in setting up and sticking to a business budget.  And to be perfectly honest, we aren’t even going to get on your case when we see the total disarray that is your “business books”, even if it is a pyramid of papers stuffed in a box somewhere.  All of that is excusable.  What gets you in trouble is if you try to use that as an excuse for apathy.  Now that is just not allowed!

Many of our clients, and even members of our own staff, were not financial superstars from the get-go.  Becoming savvy is an art that must be developed. When I use the word art, I need to be clear.  I am not presenting something that is a fanciful or optional activity to engage in.  It is a critical element that is needed to balance, and compliment, your entrepreneurial genius.

It is your responsibility, no one else’s, to manage your wealth and resources.  Unfortunately, it isn’t good practice to hand over responsibility to someone else and hide behind their expertise.  You must equip yourselves with a foundation, and go to them for the details.  Consulting with experts is laudable, but they do not relieve you of your duties.  Quality stewardship mandates that you become a life long learner about your money, your business, your cash flow, the marketplace, and even the economy.  And then, get this – you have to be disciplined enough to exercise good use of what you have learned!

Unless you are willing to learn enough to be competent and confident calling the shots on your own, you will remain dependent on someone else’s mercies.  Interdependence is good, great in fact.  But total dependence is not a thriving environment for you or your business.  Don’t let your lack of knowledge blind you. A blind steward is no steward at all.

IT matters.
